And get ready to embark on a new adventure with us around the globe.

Hey Squatty’s Travel Squad Podcast is back with Just the Tip, our Friday mini episode series where we give you quick travel stories, hacks and recommendations to set you off into the weekend.

0:51

Right today we are celebrating our friend and Co host Kim’s 37th birthday. 37, I’m 35.

Well, you know what?

My mistake.

You are so right, 35.

1:06

I’m so old now that I’m forgetting everybody’s age.

I’m 37 and thinking you’re 37, Brittanys 37.

I’m losing it.

I’m over the hill here.

So we’re going to celebrate all things Kim by showing you how not over the hill she is still young, fresh, fun.

1:24

We love it.

That’s what this episode’s all.

About I just want to harken back to when Zana was one of our Co hosts too and she was the oldest out of the four of us.

And she would always say just wait till you hit 30.

You’re going to feel the changes in your body.

And then she goes just wait till you hit 35.

1:42

And so here we have it.

We’ve hit 35.

When Kim’s feeling something like her body is sore, we’re like, oh, that’s Kim over 30.

So, Kim, how does it feel to be 35?

It feels good, yeah, you do feel it in your body more, but it doesn’t hold me back still, like I’m still going.

2:01

I love that.

I’m so happy you’re still going and I can’t wait to dive into today’s questions.

I got some hard hitting questions.

I hope you’re nervous for these.

You have been making.

Me, you know, and I tried to hit you started.

Recording this I was getting very nervous of what you 2 have up your sleeve.

2:20

Well, I am going a little easy on you.

I thought I wanted some hard hitting questions to Kim.

I got one that could be possibly very hard hitting.

But what?

What are we going to do guys?

If you recall all of our birthdays that we’ve had this year, mind Brittany’s question episode focusing on the birthday boy or girl.

2:37

And Kim, you’re going to be getting it right now with a series of questions that you have no clue what’s coming.

Some of them could be fun, Some of them could be hard hitting.

Some of them maybe could even break up the squad.

Apparently it sounds like what Brittany’s saying with her hard hitting questions.

I don’t.

Well, I’m just going to jump right into it.

2:53

Are you ready, Kim?

I’m ready.

All right, Squatty’s Kim is currently single.

And Kim, one time you were once on vacation in Italy with your boyfriend at the time.

And you asked him what’s next on his bucket list.

And he said Italy was his number one destination, so he didn’t feel like he needed to go anywhere else.

3:13

And you told me that in that moment, you knew that you would never work out long term.

So can you please describe your perfect significant other and the dream travel style you’d have together?

Whoa, that is such a loaded question.

Yeah, it wasn’t in that moment that I knew we weren’t gonna work out long term.

3:33

It was in that moment that I knew I needed to break up with him immediately.

My perfect partner, you said to describe and our travel style, My perfect travel partner would be someone who is equally interested in destinations and trying to go on these trips.

3:50

They share the passion for travel that I have.

Like it’s not, oh, it’s it’s not on my list.

I don’t want to go.

It’s more like, yeah, let’s go.

Let’s see what’s out there.

Let’s have these experiences.

We all know my type is rich, muscular and obsessed with me and that about some sign up.

You know, Kim, I’m honestly shocked you did not mention that it is a must that they put up your carry on luggage in the bin and the airplane because you’ve that was a make or break.

4:16

And I thought maybe at 35, Kim hit some sense of maturity, but that seems like it may still be there.

When he said the Oh, yeah, no, that, that’s that’s a deal breaker, right?

Standard behavior, you put the luggage up, you take it down and you roll my suitcase through the lobby.

4:32

Not all the time.

Sometimes I’ll roll it myself, but I just find it so attractive when a guy is like rolling your suitcase through the airport lobby handling business.

So this is not one of my questions, but this begs a question.

Do you judge sometimes when I don’t put Brittany’s luggage up in the bin when we’re traveling together?

4:50

Because I do sometimes, but sometimes not, you know?

Have you noticed that?

I’ve always seen you do it, and I would expect you to.

Well, I’m glad you haven’t seen the times when I don’t.

I don’t know, maybe she’s in front of me first boarding the plane because lately I’ve discovered she gets a little pissy if I go in the TSA line first or board the plane first.

5:11

So I’ve learned to have to let her board the plane 1st.

And sometimes if there’s a lot of space and not people around in that moment, Brittany will take the initiative to put her luggage up.

But if there is a lot of people around, you are right, she looks at me, defaults to me and I do put it up.

But I was just curious if I’ve ever caught me never doing it and was like, what’s Jamal doing over here?

5:29

Look at this guy, you know, no moments like that then apparently.

OK, good.

So now I’m going to have my eye on it.

Good.

Have an eye on it.

Keep me accountable.

My real question for you, starting off is a simple one.

What’s your favorite squad memory that we have together?

5:46

Whether it be a trip, an experience specific 1 memory, what would it be?

I think it would be the water slide at the Atlantis at the Palm in Dubai that one time when we were going down that super big drop and then it pushes you up on the side and you have your GoPro and you’re screaming.

6:06

It’s a big one.

It’s a big or is that Zana?

I don’t remember.

No, it was me saying it’s the big one because we were coming up to the big drop.

And then I think that’s what freaked Zana out in that moment, like, Oh my God, what’s big?

Because her back was towards it.

She couldn’t see it coming in that moment.

6:21

That was a fun one.

You know, every now and then when I relook at our videos of the water park at Atlantis in Dubai, I always love watching that video.

It’s a fun video.

Our faces of just sheer excitement.

That’s a good memory to pick out.

Kim.

I’m actually really stoked you pick that one.

6:37

That’s.

A That is a great one.

I think that was a super fun day.

We had such a good time.

If I were to pick a second behind that, I would probably pick the Bogus Basin snow tubing experience because we kind of had that same, like, energy.

And yeah, it was a very similar feel.

6:53

All right, Kim, I have another question for you.

And I’m going to need Grandma Linda to close her ears and walk away for a few moments because I’m going to ask you what is the wildest thing you’ve ever done on vacation?

There’s a few, I guess something I look back and I think is kind of crazy is when I was in Thailand and we were out, I think we were in Cosa Moy.

7:22

We were partying and out really late.

And then I got separated from my friends.

I was hanging out with other people who we were all with, but we got separated and I needed to get back to our room because it was like pretty late and I just walked out.

There was a motorcycle cab kind of thing.

7:40

They’re all over the place.

They’re not really like official cabs or like people on motorcycles that will take you, you know?

And so I didn’t even have any money or I had like very little money on me.

That’s what it was.

He wanted more money.

And I was like, this is all I have.

And he put me on the back of his motorcycle, his moped thing.

7:57

And I didn’t even know exactly where we were staying.

I just kind of knew sort of the direction it was.

I didn’t know what street, what’s the address like, could barely communicate with this guy.

But I described it to him and I told him like which ways to go.

And we got there and he did Take Me Home.

8:14

And it was all the way up a hill at the end of it too.

Those are the things you should not do when you’re travelling.

Not very safe, but it’s amazing that it worked out.

Well, that could have gone so wrong, but I’m so glad that it worked out and it went so, so right.

And I think maybe Grandma and Linda can actually listen to that one.

8:31

The answer I was expecting something a little bit more wild.

Well, there’s there’s a lot to choose from, but I thought that was that was an interesting one.

Oh, wild doesn’t mean dangerous necessarily.

True, true.

This is a good time to mention though, just like random stuff that happens when we’re traveling.

8:48

When me and Charlotte went on that Carnival Cruise, when we were ported in, I think Puerto Vallarta, we met this guy who was working at the convenience store, or it was like a liquor, a tequila tasting shop, tequila bottle shop.

He was giving us tastings.

Charlotte Facetimes me the other day and she’s like, guess who I’m with?

9:06

And she shows me this guy and I’m like, who the hell is that?

Oh my God.

Like.

You don’t Remember Me.

I was the tequila guy, the tasting guy.

And we’re like, Oh my God, what is he doing in your house, Charlotte?

How did that happen?

9:22

That’s like a big jump.

Yes, they just stayed.

But I guess it’s a question for Charlotte.

All right.

My next question for you, Kim is what’s one thing you would change about our squad dynamic?

This isn’t necessarily squad dynamic, but it is kind of like operation side of things behind the scenes.

9:42

If I could change, I would have like a almost like an employee of some sort who helped manage the podcast like did social, did editing producer got guess.

Obviously that’s something we’re working toward and we’ll get, you know, one day when we need it, when we want it.

9:59

But I feel like that would turn us into a machine, a powerhouse.

We would be unstoppable.

Absolutely.

I mean, I just think about how much time we all individually put into the podcast and if someone was doing that, because we all work our own, you know, nine to five, let’s say, we would be on a whole different level.

10:18

No, I don’t even think that.

Like I’m not even thinking about 9:00 to 5:00.

Like this person could help take us to such a great height that we could focus on being travel, personality creators, media conglomerates and forgo past lives.

10:33

I would love to let go of my past life.

Very good answer, Kim.

And you know, I feel like I asked that one of Brittany, too.

I don’t know what I’m expecting because I don’t think we’re going to air dirty laundry if we really had it about like complaints.

But I mean, we really do travel well together.

I think people in general, of course you’re going to have the thing where somebody wants to do something or they say something and you’re annoyed, but we get over it real quick.

10:57

So we do, we have a good dynamic and I’m glad that you kind of brought it to a behind the scenes type thing because that is goal number one.

That would be absolutely awesome.

I mean, that’s a lot of our dynamic is how we work together.

We we travel together, we’re friends, we have these different lenses of our relationship depending on the situation.

11:15

All right, Kim, Are you ready for the next one?

Yes, hit me.

Would you rather spend a week on vacation with not stylish but extremely comfortable shoes and clothing or severely comfortable but very cute shoes and clothing?

If it was just clothing I would say uncomfortable, but shoes?

11:35

Uncomfortable shoes for a week on vacation sounds like hell because I’ve done it.

And this is how we know Kim is 35.

If Kim was under 30, her answer would be like, you work those uncomfortable shoes and that’s that guys.

11:55

They’re cute.

There is one hack that I have been dying to try that you can spray your feet with lidocaine and then you won’t feel the pain.

So if that works then I would choose the cute shoes.

That is an accident waiting to happen.

All right, Kim, So what would you say is your biggest travel style change or preference that you’ve developed over the years?

12:16

I would say more luxury experiences is what I’m all about these days.

Like a robe, a nice view, excellent service.

A good glass of wine.

Wine every campaign room service.

I’m starting to get like that too, Kim.

12:33

I can still stay and I don’t want to say like a cheap dirty hotel, but if we’re arriving late and it’s a place to sleep one night before we’re moving on, totally cool.

But if we’re there like a couple days or even depending on the location, if the location dictates like, oh, this should be really nice, let’s do it.

12:50

I agree with you.

I’d rather be in the splurge for a nice hotel that makes me feel a little bit more luxurious in that way.

Absolutely.

And I just was having a conversation with someone about this this weekend.

We were talking about hostels and I was telling him about travel.

13:07

I don’t think he’d done much and was like, no, I wouldn’t recommend staying in a hostel or I was recommending it if you’re not going to be there a while or if you’re going cheap, whatever.

But he was asking about my travel style and I was saying the same thing.

At this stage, not going to be staying in a hostel.

That’s just not what I want to do.

13:24

Would you stay in a hostel private room?

Hostel, private bed That’s.

Exactly what he asked me too.

And honestly, no, because I did it in Greece and it was.

So there’s better hostels, some are better than others, right?

But this one, it was a fine hostel, was highly recommended and it was just, they’re very bare bones, right?

13:42

You have to rent A towel sometimes.

And that’s not the experience I want.

I want to really enjoy my travel experience, every bit of it.

I feel like as we’re all aging, we can all agree that we’re all leaning in that direction these days.

I’ll still go forward a room with you guys though, yeah.

14:00

Forward a room is always fine too for sure.

So Kim, what is your favorite state in the US and why is it your favorite?

That is such a tough decision.

I could tell you my least favorite state is Oklahoma.

Don’t.

Offend Kasha on the podcast.

14:17

I just don’t see it there.

But and you just got back from there too very recently, that’s fresh on your mind too on top of that.

Just driving through it like, no, My favorite state in America.

I mean, I’m tempted to say California because it is my home state and I do love so much of it.

14:36

The mountains, the beach, the cities, even the desert.

Sure, there’s so many beautiful national parks there.

I guess I have to say California.

Kim, I would not disagree with you and let me tell you why.

We have the most national parks of any state and there’s a reason you hit off all the key markers of different geographical type places that we have, how unique they are and they’re so special that they’re all national parks 9 we got the most out of anybody California love.

15:07

All right, this one is going to be really hard hitting.

It could also be comical, but I really want to know.

I really want to know.

Kim, you could only do one in a new city, OK.

You can’t do both.

You can’t enjoy it like you really would because I know you want to do both.

You could only do one.

15:23

Go out to tie or go to rooftop bar.

I will go to rooftop bar.

Go to a rooftop bar, forgo the tie.

Yep.

All right.

OK, what if it’s a shitty rooftop bar but it’s the only rooftop bar?

These places out here really trying to pass second story, fourth story, quote, UN quote rooftops as rooftop bars.

15:44

And no, it really does have to be high enough amount of stories up.

I don’t know, 20 feel like 20 is like a good amount where it is a rooftop bar.

You’re above, you’re in the scene.

Yeah, if you’re only two or three stories up, it’s not a rooftop.

It’s a deck.

15:59

It’s a deck bar.

You know, those don’t count.

It needs to be rooftop.

Kim, we’ve been talking off the podcast about an possible episode on travel ICS.

So what is your biggest travel IC right now?

My biggest travel IC right now is Europe because I don’t like what they do to us in the airports.

16:21

In the US we have it, I guess pretty good.

But going to Europe, you have to take your toiletries out, your liquids and you have to put them in their plastic bag.

It’s a pain in the ass.

It’s so inefficient it.

Especially at London Heathrow, they’re notorious for it over there to the point where we’ve mentioned before on the podcast that we bring back their specific plastic bags.

16:43

So anytime that we’re traveling through London Heathrow and you have to, for terminals or even planes, it doesn’t even matter.

Once you land and are flying, whether it be internationally back out of there or domestically, you’re going back through security.

And yeah, it could be under 3 oz, but they still only allow so much liquids.

17:02

And if it goes outside of their own defined bag, it doesn’t count.

So we have those Baggies too.

It is annoying.

I won’t disagree with you on that.

All right, so Kim, this is going to be my last question for you.

And I want you to name a time that we were traveling as a squad that Brittany did something to really annoy you and I did something to really annoy you.

17:24

I can’t wait to hear.

This.

What have you guys done to me?

Oh, I got one.

I got one for Brittany.

Let’s hear it.

This was just like a tiny second in time, but when we were in West Virginia and it was the second day we went rafting and then we came back and you and Jamal went to go hike somewhere.

17:49

I didn’t want to go and I laid on the couch.

I actually took a really amazing nap with my put my sweater over my head and it was dark and my nap was amazing.

I just passed out right away and woke up when you walked in the door and you were like I’ll bitch you when you walked in and you were like are you coming to dinner or or?

18:08

Coming to the and.

I was like, I had just literally woke up the second you walked in the door and I was like what the fuck?

Well, I wasn’t expecting you to be asleep, I was expecting you to be ready to walk out the door to get a drink at the bar and then so we could meet our person for dinner.

18:27

So I do apologize.

Didn’t realize you were still asleep and I had texted you in advance.

While I was asleep, so I did not get it.

What about for Jamal?

Dying to hear this one.

Jamal.

I know I have my little quarks and ways to get in under people’s skin.

It’s unintentional, but I’m curious myself.

18:43

Is it his demeanor during Medicare season?

I’m busy during Medicare season.

Well, this is also very random and like not that serious.

But on that same trip, I’m not a breakfast person.

I don’t eat like a lot of breakfast.

19:00

I don’t like a Big Breakfast.

I don’t even like eating first thing in the morning.

And on that trip we had to eat and you are so gracious to cook breakfast.

It’s just so nice.

But you just gave me way too much every morning.

And I was just like, I don’t want this.

OK, good to know.

19:16

I will omit you from the breakfast rotation.

No, I don’t want to be outside.

I.

Just want to be scaled back like 1 egg and one sausage.

Like whenever I say 1 egg, you’re like sausage 1 egg.

Like whoa, too much.

And then you’re like, OK, fine too.

19:32

And then you don’t eat it.

It is noted Kim 1 egg got it.

OK, cool.

Thank you.

All right, Brett, you said you had one good one to end on, so let’s hear it.

Yeah, this is my last and final question.

So you’ve referred in the past about travel regrets and we’ve kind of jokingly called them your Africa because you chose not to go on that South Africa trip.

19:53

So when are you going to actually make it to Africa and what is your dream African adventure?

I was actually thinking about this like man I really do want to go on a safari.

It looks so cool to see those animals.

Up close and I you guys haven’t seen the cheetah, right?

20:09

Or have you?

We have not seen a cheetah in the wild.

All the more reason for us to do a squad trip to Africa.

I’m wanting to get to Serengeti and Masamara, Kenya, Tanzania.

We should do it.

They’re up in that region for sure to see the cheetahs.

But you know, we possibly, but I don’t mean to steal your Thunder.

20:26

The question is, what’s your dream African?

And that’s the other thing is I actually have done like no research into Africa.

I haven’t really looked at any content about it, I just, I don’t know actually.

Well, I guess when we plan our next African adventure, you’re going to have to hop on so that it doesn’t become your second Africa.

20:45

Yeah, I think I’m ready now that, you know, I didn’t want to go trekking with chimpanzees and gorillas and like, I I don’t want to do that, but I do want to see animals from a safe enough distance away, like in a car.

Maybe.

And do you think that Africa will really count?

Because I know we’re planning Egypt first, so Egypt’s actually in Africa.

21:04

So does that really count?

Or are we really counting like an African safari adventure?

When I say Africa, I’m thinking like wild animals, safaris that kind of, you know, like neutral colored clothing, big hat.

That is the Africa for sure that we are referring to and that you are rightfully concurring with.

21:24

Because even when we were in Morocco, of course Morocco’s in Africa, that’s not Africa.

Like when I envision Africa, and someone could say it’s a stereotypical view, but it’s the truth.

I think of the big game, the animals, lions, elephants, leopards, giraffe, rhinos.

That’s what you want to see when you go to Africa.

21:40

And yes, the pyramids too.

But does it really count as Africa?

I don’t think so, if you count Egypt.

Well, there you have it, Squatty’s Kim has made it through all of her birthday questions.

Happy birthday Kim again.

You made it to 35.

Halfway to 70.

Thanks guys, and thank you Squatty’s for tuning in to Just the Tip.
