Weekend in Nashville – Episode Transcript

0:35

And get ready to embark on a new adventure with us around the globe.

Hello fellow travelers.

Hey, squaddies.

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Travel Squad Podcast.

Today we have one for those that love nightlife.

We are taking you to a three day weekend in Nashville, TN.

0:54

I’m really excited to talk about Nashville in this episode, Kim, You know Brittany and I were not on this one.

You went with our friends James, Chelsea, and Mikey for what seemed like an amazing time when I saw all your Instagram photos and stories.

Now, Brittany and I have been to Nashville.

1:10

We are not as big as partiers in the nightlife scene as you, but we did enjoy it a lot.

Although I was kind of shocked to see like, oh, you know, Broadway’s only a couple blocks.

But I’m really looking forward to having you give us a different perspective on it.

Because of course, we only really used it as a hub when we actually went a few places around in the vicinity, more particularly going to a National Park up in Kentucky.

1:33

So this is going to give a nice little rundown of the city as a whole.

We also visited, it was COVID, so it probably wasn’t as lively as it was when you visited Kim.

So I’m excited to hear about the different perspectives and what you guys did over this three day weekend.

Yeah.

1:49

That’s a good point.

And I think it’s gotten bigger.

It, it seemed to me like it was a lot more than two blocks now.

But when I went, it was January right after New Year’s.

It’s my friend Chelsea’s birthday every year right after New Year’s.

And so it actually wasn’t as busy as it was the time before that I had gone in November.

2:07

It was still very lively and whatnot, but I noticeably noticed that it was less, you know, wild than it was before.

It was still a really good time.

Nashville is a very party friendly city.

If you like nightlife, if you like music, you are going to love Nashville.

2:23

And you do not have to be just a country music fan.

There’s a lot of different kinds of music.

Literally every single place you go into, there’s live music.

It’s called the live music Capital of the country for a reason.

I know they say that about Austin, but Austin doesn’t even come close to the amount of live music.

2:41

Like every place from like boutique stores to bars to restaurants, like every single place you go, there will be music playing live music.

So this episode we’re going to give some insight into Broadway, which is one of the biggest draws of the Nashville nightlife.

2:58

But we’re also going to share some amazing places to eat and some other things to do outside of just get wild and listen to music.

And you mentioned Broadway and that’s kind of what I want to preface of what I mentioned at the intro of this episode.

And of course, if any of our squaddies have listened to our past episode on Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, of course we talked about our time here in Nashville.

3:19

And I think that’s what something that just completely took me abacks, right?

You always hear about Broadway.

People are going here as like the New Vegas for bachelor or Bachelorette parties and all that stuff.

And it was just a couple blocks of Broadway, right, where they have the main honky tonks.

3:35

Now there’s tons of them and three, four stories tall, right?

But that’s again, what really threw me back on.

It is like everyone’s talking about this and it just really blew my mind.

But nevertheless, it’s still a really fun time on Broadway.

You can’t really judge it from the outside.

It’s inside like it’s huge.

3:52

You can’t even get to every spot.

In one weekend.

I probably went into 15 different places and there’s still five times as many places I didn’t go into.

So you’ve really got to stop thinking about it like that.

And it actually isn’t just two blocks.

4:07

So as I came, came to find out, you know, James, our friend James has been to Nashville a million times.

So he was almost like traveling with a local.

Like he knew all the spots, he’s been to all the places.

And so he took us around and there are some different areas of Nashville.

4:23

In the downtown area, you have Broadway with the big honky tonks and you know all that.

There’s Music Row, which is close to Broadway.

To an outsider, you may not even know the difference, but it’s a neighborhood with a lot of bars, a lot of recording studios.

There’s printers, there’s Alley, which is just about a block from Broadway.

4:41

It’s another super fun bar area with food and tons of places.

But what’s cool about these places is once you go in, you said the Honky Tonks are four stories, and a lot of them are, but most of the bars are multiple stories and multiple stories have a different band or a different type of music on every story, even the small ones.

5:02

A couple of other neighborhoods that aren’t just so nightlife heavy are the Gulch and 12 S The Gulch is a newer area.

There’s a lot of really good restaurants there.

There’s also bars there as well.

One of my favorite bars in Nashville is LA Jackson.

It’s a really great rooftop bar in the Gulf area, kind of a little bit nicer. 12 S is a neighborhood where if you want to go shopping during the day, they have a lot of really cute boutique stores and vintage stores in cute old houses, and there’s also restaurants and bars out there too.

5:33

I think you made a really good point when you reiterated that, you know, if you go up onto a different level of the bar honky tonk, the music actually changes, right?

When Brittany and I had gone, you walk in, of course, it’s country, country music, USA right out here in Nashville, right?

5:50

But as we went up each level and finally made our way to the top, I forget which bar it was at, but it almost turned into a nightclub with like rap, hip hop, that kind of style, loud music versus on each level, that different transition.

So even if you’re not in the country, I do think it’s a great place to go just for a general night I’ve seen, and you can get any type of variety of music that you would like, even though most people associate Nashville with country music.

6:15

So on this three day weekend, we stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton in downtown Nashville.

I think it’s a great hotel.

They have a good hotel, bar and restaurant.

The rooms are nice.

It’s a great location.

It’s just a couple blocks to Broadway, so definitely walking distance, but it’s far enough away where it’s actually very quiet so.

6:35

What day did you fly into Nashville?

Did you fly in on a Friday?

Friday.

Yep, we all got into town on a Friday and I got in probably like early evening.

James was already there.

Chelsea and Mikey had some delays on their flight, so we were just kind of killing time at the hotel bar getting some food while we wait for their plane to finally arrive.

6:56

And what did I do at the hotel bar first thing into Nashville?

I’m starving.

What do you think I ordered?

Hot chicken, Nashville hot chicken or some type of BBQ?

I would not be ordering BBQ, but you’re right.

Nashville hot Chicken.

Nashville’s known for their hot chicken, hot chicken sandwiches and I got the one at the hotel bar.

7:13

But there are some really good places in Nashville that you should know about.

No matter who you talk to in Nashville, most people will tell you that the number one hot chicken spot is Prince’s.

It’s Prince Possessive, so not Princess Prince’s.

It’s number one spot in town.

7:29

I didn’t get to try it.

I really would love to on my next stop in there, but some other ones that were recommended are 400° Bolton’s Party, Foul Helen and Hattie B’s in that order from this one particular source I I got this info from.

I feel like Nashville hot chicken is a hot topic, just like best barbecue in certain regions could be a hot topic too or anything like that.

7:53

Because when we were there, a lot of people kept saying like Hattie B’s and then Hattie B’s was really crowded.

And then we went to Party Foul and Brittany and I fell in love with Party Foul like we.

Love.

Party foul?

Yeah, absolutely.

So I don’t disagree with the source who gave you this list in that order, but hot topic, right?

8:11

So I guess if you’re there and really enjoy hot chicken, just go figure it out yourself on which one.

A couple of other people did say Prince’s is number 1, though that does not seem to be debated.

That’s good to know.

I think when we were there, that wasn’t even mentioned to us so.

No, it’s the original.

8:28

OK, wow, look at that.

No one even mentioned it to us.

So when we go back, we’re going to have to try Prince’s then.

Yeah, me too.

After they got into town and we got ready for the night.

You know, when you’re national, you have to play into the theme.

So you’ve got to put on your cowboy hat, dress a little country, get some fringe on and go out and have fun with it.

8:47

And so that’s what we did.

And James is just so excited to go out onto the town.

He’s like, I want to take you here and here and here.

And so we started going to a few places out on Broadway.

Roberts Honky Tonk Heaven was a really good spot to start with and get some music in.

9:04

There is another one that’s really well known in Nashville.

They even have an airport restaurant, so it’s a staple in town.

It’s got multiple levels, multiple different stages, multiple bars.

It’s a really fun time in there.

Like you could truly spend your entire night in one spot and not even see the whole thing at many of these honky tonks.

9:25

But of course, it’s a Broadway bar crawl, so we’re crawling around.

And so after spending a couple hours at these two, we move on.

We go to Jason Aldean’s bar.

He’s got a really big one, huge stage and dance floor and big upper area where you can go into the 2nd floor and then look down.

9:42

So that was a really fun one, especially if you like dancing.

It doesn’t have to be two step and it’s definitely not line dancing, but you can just boogie down there a little bit.

We went to Honky Tonk Central and then at this point, you know, I tried to keep a record of all the places we went into, but at a certain point I stopped writing them down and you kind of lose track of where you’re at and what you’re doing.

10:06

But we also went out at like 9:30, ten O clock at night, so it was already late.

We didn’t get to hit that many spots.

We did around this time find a street hot dog vendor and if you’re in Nashville, especially after having been to some of these bars, go for the hot dogs.

10:21

They are very good out here.

They put chili and Nacho cheese in the bun.

Oh, that sounds really yummy, especially if you’re drunk.

That’s like the perfect thing to have.

So good.

Question for you, what time do the bars start to close down in Nashville?

10:38

That’s a great question.

I thought it was about two, but I think they might stay open later, or some of them do.

You know, I know when you’re out having fun, it’s easy to lose track of time.

To answer Brittany’s question that she had for you.

I think I remember it being 3:00 AM last call because I knew it was different than what we’re used to here in California, which is normal, like 2:00 AM.

10:58

So I’m pretty positive.

Last call in Nashville, 3:00 AM.

Officially, but as you’ll see.

Of course, of course, there’s always official then there’s always a little bending of the rules.

Yeah, so Printer’s Alley is another spot.

It was actually between the Broadway and then the hotel.

11:14

So we did kind of walk through there.

We didn’t really go into any places this night.

The one place I really wanted to go was Wild Beaver.

This was our last stop of the night.

It’s right near Printer’s Alley.

And the reason I wanted to go there is because it’s a staple of Nashville and it has a mechanical bull and I’m in Nashville.

11:34

I wanted to ride that bull.

How long did you stay on the bull for?

I think he went kind of easy on me, so I did pretty good.

Was that your first time riding the mechanical bull or have you run one before?

I’ve run them before.

And how did you fare those times compared to this time?

11:49

I don’t know, probably the same.

They really don’t.

They don’t go too hard on girls.

On Saturday we slept in because we went to bed pretty late once we got back to the hotel before we stayed up a little bit longer so we slept in.

12:28

By the time we got up it was more like lunchtime than breakfast time and so we decided to go to Peg Leg Porker.

James really wanted to go here.

It was not my choice but I know you 2 have been and you had good reviews.

We love peg leg porker.

When we went, I thought the sides were absolutely delicious.

12:45

They had a pulled pork BBQ sandwich that was amazing.

Of course we did try the ribs too.

I’m just going to throw this out there and again, BBQ divisive subject, but I am not a big fan of Nashville style ribs, the dry rub, their sauce, etcetera.

13:02

But they’re pulled pork game awesome.

And again, I really, really did love the sides at Peg Lake Porker, and I’m curious to know what you thought about it.

We got the ribs, chicken, beans, green beans and Mac and cheese.

The Mac and cheese was amazing.

13:17

The beans were good.

They were so smoky.

Even the green beans were smoky.

They’re really good.

The chicken was OK.

The ribs were not that great.

I like my ribs where they just fall completely off off the bone with no effort.

This wasn’t the case here.

They were dry rub ribs and I just have a really high bar for BBQ now.

13:37

Well, you live in Texas, so.

I know.

Bar is really high and I feel like different areas with BBQ you have to know what they’re known for and Nashville is known like for their pulled pork.

But I don’t really like pulled pork either, so I wasn’t going to order that, even though I know you.

13:53

You said it was really good.

You know, in general, I’m not like a huge pulled pork fan.

I mean, I like it, but if I’m getting BBQ, it’s not really my thing.

But you can see it in the name peg leg pork or a lot of their stuff more so is pork oriented than beef, right?

Because if you’re Texas BBQ, you’re going to get a lot of beef even with that too.

14:09

But I’ll, I heard you say when you described peg leg pork or Kim, you said all the sides were delicious.

Everything else you mentioned was just like anybody who’s listening go to peg leg pork or I really do think the pulled pork if you like pulled pork plus that with the sides.

And I’m so surprised you did not say you had the banana pudding because they’re banana pudding was fire at Peg Lake.

14:29

Porker, I know you did recommend that, but I could only eat so much, so I had to limit myself.

After we ate there, we had a little bit of time to kill and so we decided to get on some of the scooters that they have there.

They’re Bird scooters, but Bird and Lyft have a partnership now.

14:46

So you can rent Bird scooters on Lyft through Lyft app FYI.

Very easy.

That’s really cool.

So do they even still have Lyft scooters at all?

Or that’s just kind of Bird but now through Lyft?

Not sure about the live scooter branding but they’re Co branded now so yeah it’s very convenient.

15:03

I’m curious, how much did it cost to actually use one of these?

Because one time when Brittany and I really wanted to use them, we were in Washington, DC, and I could not believe how expensive they were renting these for, for such a short distance.

And I’m curious, in a place like Nashville that’s very popular, how much it goes for?

15:22

It’s not by distance, it’s by minute, so it depends on how long you’re going to use it for.

But the four of us each rent to the scooter to Uber to where we wanted to go, which wasn’t that far, would have been extremely much more cost effective.

You’re not doing it for cost.

15:38

It’s not a cost saving transportation method.

It was about $6 for each of us and we were.

We weren’t on them that long.

We went around to a few different spots where murals were, though.

The main mural in the Gulch area is this big Angel wing painting that you can stand in front of and get a picture.

15:54

It’s really cute.

And if you’re in the area, I would say go see it as well as some of the other murals in the area.

And it was just a fun thing to do.

You know, when you’re on a scooter, you can move faster.

So it was fun even though it was extremely cold when I was there.

And riding a scooter in the extreme cold probably wouldn’t be the top of my recommendation list.

16:12

The reason we were killing time though, is because we had a reservation for a rage room the night before.

Someone in the group, not me, but someone in the group was displaying a bit of inner rage.

And I said, you know what?

In my drunken state the night before, I said I’m going to book.

16:28

It’s a rage room.

And so we had a reservation for Axe Ventures Rage Room.

It was more in the Grand Old Opry area.

Like if we had more time when we were there, we would have totally gone to the Grand Old Opry, but that’s kind of where it was.

So it was a bit of a drive out and we got there.

16:45

We got a drink at the little bar next door and then we went in.

It’s also an axe throwing spot if you’re into that.

We didn’t throw any axes.

But have you guys ever done a rage room?

We have not done a rage room, but I am very intrigued to do them.

I know they have them in a lot of places.

17:01

I believe they have several like in Vegas.

I know of this one out here because I think one time watching The Amazing Race, which I absolutely love, they were in Nashville and I think they did the rage room here.

But if it wasn’t in Nashville, point being somewhere along The Amazing Race, they did it.

But I think it would be a great place to go and just vent out frustration or just have fun breaking stuff.

17:21

So for people who don’t know what it is, why don’t you tell everyone what it is?

Well, it’s essentially a room that is intended for you to break shit in.

And so I’ve, I’ve seen them on TV where there’s, they’re big rooms with like cars.

Ours wasn’t that big.

It was actually dangerously small for four people swinging bats around.

17:41

You had to be really careful.

But they give you a bucket of like plates and bowls and lamps and things you can break.

They have TV’s and stuff like that and you get your time to smash it.

17:56

And that’s what we did.

And James was playing like death metal music, so we really got our rage out.

That does not surprise me that James would throw on some death metal to go ahead and do that.

But yeah, you know what?

When you say that, you know what that really reminds me of?

18:12

It reminds me of the movie Office Space when they get like really upset and they take like the copier, the printer that never works, and then just throw it on the ground and take the baseball bat to it.

Like if you’ve ever seen that movie, that scene, imagine a rage room like tenfold with a whole bunch of other stuff to be able to do that.

18:27

In Yeah, in addition to the stuff that you have to smash it, you could literally throw up a plate, smash it with a baseball bat up against the wall.

It was very liberating.

But they also had like a microwave in there and a water heater that you could just smash onto and it was great.

They said that a lot of therapy patients are their customers.

18:47

I’m going to have to give one a go because I’m very intrigued.

I need to look and see if San Diego has one now.

Definitely.

Did you spend the entire 30 minutes or did you get done faster?

It was about 30 minutes and they do give you coveralls to put on over your clothes, like a little booties for your shoes, a helmet, a full face mask, glove, so you’re pretty well protected.

19:08

The biggest danger is honestly just not getting hit by someone else’s bat as they’re swinging.

We had four people in this room, so we had to really coordinate who was smashing at what time.

And I said we would have gone to the grand old outbreaks.

It was very close to here, but we didn’t have the time.

19:25

The reason we didn’t have the time is because a couple of friends from Woodland, our hometown that actually live out near Nashville, James had been talking to them and they were coming to Nashville to meet up with us.

So we need to get back and meet up with them.

So did you go back to Broadway to meet up with them?

19:42

We went back to the hotel, we met up with him there, and then all of us went out to Broadway together.

This time we wanted to see some different spots than we did before.

We did go through Printer’s Alley, of course, again, and we stopped into the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar.

19:57

This is a really, really fun bar and one of the things I love about it is it’s.

Almost like a supper club.

There’s a lot of seating, a lot of booth seating, and there’s 2 levels.

So if you’re on the top level, you can still look down at the band and the stage.

20:13

Almost everywhere has a good seat, but they sit you down.

It’s not really a bar that you’re going in to stand up in when it gets overcrowded, sure, but you can sit there and actually order a drink or order some snacks and watch the band.

Well, it seems like a great place to kind of get a more mellow vibe.

20:31

I don’t know if I would call it mellow, but you know.

Just the fact that you’re sitting, right, A lot of other places on Broadway, I mean, there’s very few seats, right?

It’s not cater to be like, oh, you’re sitting, you know, you’re up, you’re standing at the bar, walking around from floor to floor.

So that’s what I mean by mellow.

If you just kind of want to sit, doesn’t mean that the vibe necessarily inside is mellow, Yeah.

20:51

Well the next spot we went to on Broadway was Kid Rock’s Big honky Tonk and it’s a multi level honky tonk bar.

The first level when you walk in is the stage level.

The stage is super raised, so you’re kind of looking U at the band.

21:07

The second level, you can see it from there.

It’s full of tables, so if you want to sit, this is actually a good one that is really high energy but has a lot of tables too.

There’s a lot of people sitting there.

You know, there’s actually a lot of seats in Nashville and I kind of liked that about it.

21:22

I noticed that when I was there.

Well, maybe when we were there, it has something to do with the fact that Britney was saying even COVID too, and they didn’t want people sitting or doing something.

I don’t know, but I feel like I don’t remember that.

But that’s good to know that there is the availability because I really hate being 37 years old and going to a bar and sometimes not being able to to sit down.

21:40

I know that sounds kind of stupid, but that’s where I’m at in life.

Then you’ll you’ll love Nashville.

Now my favorite bar that we went to on this night was this bar.

It’s Morgan Wallen’s bar.

It is so fun.

The first level has the band.

21:56

I think they were playing some type of country music down there and someone had gone up to another level and was like, you have to come up here.

This is where it turned into like DJ.

They were playing all kinds of like old hits, new hits, like really fun, like EDM music or rap, and they kept changing the song and it was such a good time.

22:15

I had the best time at this level at this bar on this night.

And the bar is called this bar.

This bar and I kept saying I love this bar.

So that was a really fun one.

The other one that I I remember from this night that was really cool was called Whiskey Bent Saloon.

22:33

And what was cool about it was the live band had a fiddle.

Any time you hear a live fiddle, it’s just so cool.

I don’t care if you like country music or not.

That sound and the fact that they can play so fast to all the songs, like the Devil went Down to Georgia with a fiddle.

22:49

Oh yeah, that was good.

What time did you guys stay out till this night?

Well, this night, I believe around this time, we walked outside and it was snowing.

It’s like flurries of snow.

And so we ended up popping in a cab and going back to the hotel.

23:05

That doesn’t mean we went to sleep.

We went to sleep probably around 4:00 in the morning, all night.

Did you get another St. hot dog while you were outside?

I did, yeah.

Hot dogs are the way to go.

Late night Nashville Saturday night when we were out I went to the bathroom and I saw an ad on the back of the bathroom door for Ivs and was like this is exactly what we need.

23:28

So I made a reservation for us to get Ivs Sunday morning in our hotel.

That is Kim over 35.

Well.

What do you say Ivs, This business is catered to, of course, the fact that you were in a party and drinking city.

23:44

So these are basically like hangover and hydration Ivs to kind of get that pep back in your step, so to speak, and kind of make you feel a lot better.

Yeah, the business is called Hangover Healthcare, and the nurse brings all of the materials wherever you are.

24:01

So she brought them to our hotel room, knocked on her hotel door, came right in, hooked us all up.

And they have different ones that you can choose from.

They have a standard package with bunch of vitamins and hydration and whatnot, but you can also add different things to it depending on if you’re feeling really nauseous or you’re having like really bad body pains or headaches.

24:19

They can put that in there.

I think Mikey got whatever it was that was for pain and he said he felt like 1,000,000 bucks.

Afterwards, all of his body pain, his headache was gone.

That’s really cool.

You know, I would be interested in trying something like that, whether it be after a night of drinking or not even drinking.

24:35

Just come in and having somebody like hydrate you and do all that stuff.

I think it would just be quite fun.

But I know you said Mikey felt good after it.

Did you feel good after it?

Can you feel a noticeable difference?

When I woke up this morning, I woke up.

I got in the how everyone was still sleeping.

I actually felt really great, but I think it was because I was still drunk.

24:55

That’ll do it to you sometimes.

And then the IV came in, so I never got a hangover.

It was amazing.

So you know, I had told you guys I want to go to Monell’s for brunch.

I was so excited to go back to Monell’s, which is this restaurant in this beautiful big manner, this historic old manner that they do family style southern breakfast and it’s amazing.

25:16

Can you make reservations?

No you cannot.

You said family style.

Tell us about the spread and what you can get there.

So they have tables.

The last time that I had gone they had tables of like 15 where they sit you with whoever and they bring out a plate of cinnamon rolls, pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fried chicken like sweet tea, Everything you would want in a southern brunch.

25:37

It’s so good and it’s all you can eat basically.

You are making me so hungry, and if I do go back to Nashville, I’m going to definitely put Monell’s on our list for sure.

Yeah, the only thing about Monell’s that makes me mad is I really don’t think they should call it brunch.

25:53

And maybe they don’t.

Maybe they just call it breakfast because I really wanted to go here and then it said it’s open till 4:00 so I was like perfect.

But they actually stopped serving breakfast at 11:00 AM on Sundays.

That seems so early.

Like I feel like right, 1:00 on a Sunday, that makes a lot of sense.

26:10

But 11, I know it’s a little early.

Shocking.

I was shocked.

So we missed Monel’s and we didn’t go there for brunch and as I came to found out, they don’t have that big historic manner anymore.

They gave it up because they didn’t want to negotiate the rent and it’s currently vacant and they they’ve moved to a different location.

26:30

It still looks pretty, but it’s nothing like that old historic manner.

Oh, OK, I didn’t realize you had missed it because you were talking about going and all of that stuff, but that makes sense.

They they move locations, they stop serving breakfast and you want to go there for their delicious southern breakfast.

26:46

I would have gone there but we just missed it.

It was already 11 when we were done with the Ivs and ready to go.

So where did you go instead?

So this was another one on our list that we were thinking about going the day before we went to Barbie Rick you instead.

So I’m happy we went here.

And that is buttermilk ranch breakfast.

27:03

If you look up best brunch in Nashville, you will certainly see this spot on the list and it holds up to its reputation.

It’s really, really good.

I’m not sure if they take reservations, but we walked in and of course it’s extremely busy.

It was also raining, so it was a busy waiting inside.

27:20

It was about an hour wait for a table.

We didn’t end up getting a table.

We got a four in a row spot at the bar.

So we kind of lucked out, but not before we sat at the bar drinking of course before while we were waiting, which and also I must say shout out, they have very good pours of mimosas.

27:38

They also have an extremely beautiful bakery, just the most artisan gorgeous pastries and like sweets.

While we were waiting, we got this little Deborah.

It’s essentially like 2 oatmeal cookies with this delicious cream in the middle.

Oh my God, it was so good.

27:55

Yeah, that sounds really good.

It’s in the 12th South area and so on a nice day you could explore the area, go shopping and whatnot.

That would be a pleasant thing to do while you wait.

We just stayed inside, kind of got drinks at the bar past time and looked at the menu.

And so we decided to do family style.

28:13

We were going to share everything and we ordered quite a bit of stuff.

What’d you get?

Tell us the spread.

So good, I want to go back.

We got the pork belly breakfast, fried rice, which was the best thing.

So good.

Sounds delicious.

We got biscuits with their biscuits were flaky and amazing and a flight of different gravies.

28:33

Well, tell me what the different gravies are in a flight.

I mean, I imagine sausage gravy, that’s a standard.

So what other type of gravy do they have on that flight?

There was a tomato gravy, which doesn’t sound good, but it was was really good.

There was a pepper gravy and then I can’t remember the third one.

28:49

Maybe the third one was sausage in the the other one was just a straight pepper, no sausage.

Really good.

Sounds good nevertheless.

We got an eggs Benedict and it wasn’t on an English muffin, it was on one of their house made croissants that was so good.

We got beignets and it came with this delicious lemon curd.

29:08

I love lemon.

Yes.

And then I think that’s all we got.

But it was a lot of food and I would go back 100 times again.

So what did you guys do after your brunch?

We walked around 12 SA little bit.

29:24

We went into some of the shops.

There’s a lot of shops that that reminded me of Austin South Congress.

Those kinds of shops that are like a little bit more high end, but still nice kind of boutique Y we went into one vintage shop that had all kinds of weird stuff in it.

And then after that, we decided to go into this restaurant called Bar Taco and we were just going to grab a drink.

29:45

But we ended up actually staying sitting at the bar for a few hours having margaritas and they had shots.

But time flies in Nashville.

And I was going to go home on Sunday actually.

But because of the snow, every single flight was delayed.

And I think my original flight was around 4:00 PM and it was already getting delayed at past midnight.

30:04

So I was like, you know what, I’m just going to stay.

I’ll change my flight to tomorrow and I’ll figure it out.

And that was a good or a bad choice?

I don’t know.

I was going to say, So what did you do with the extra day that you got then?

Well, we went back to the hotel to kind of put our food and stuff down.

30:20

The reason we drank and ate at the hotel bar a few times is because with James’s membership with Hilton and Points we there was a bar credit every single day.

We had to use it right.

So we got another drink there before we went back down out to Broadway and hit up a few more spots that we had not gone into before.

30:38

This is three nights of going out to multiple different bars and I still don’t feel like I saw anywhere near enough.

We went to Luke Bryan’s bar, which was really cool, dancing with some randoms there.

We went to Miranda Lambert’s bar, which I thought it was actually kind of small, but it was still nice.

30:54

There was a live band there, of course, actually the live band that was there.

We saw them the night before at Morgan and Wallins bar.

OK so a lot of the bands hop from place to place than it seems.

I guess so.

The very last thing that we did was go to the Taco Bell downtown.

31:10

The reason we wanted to go is because it’s a Taco Bell cantina.

They had a stage and a live band and frozen Baja blast that you can add liquor to.

That sounds quite intriguing.

I was going to say, you know, when he said Taco Bell, I said he didn’t want a hot dog a third night in a row.

But now I understand why.

31:26

And plus Taco Bell, of course, if you’re out drinking, probably one of the best things to so good that satisfy a lot of people.

Chicken quesadilla, Nacho fries and a spiked Baja blast.

That was my order.

So good.

Best way to end this weekend in Nashville?

31:42

I will say they call it Nash Vegas and I agree.

It’s like Vegas, it’s so much nightlife and you’re walking so much.

And I just feel like I don’t need to go back to Nashville for a long time.

You know, I say that about Vegas, and then I always find myself wanting to go back to Vegas sooner than later.

32:01

So I feel like Nashville’s the same way.

You’ve really inspired me with this one to go back.

If you go back though, I would say go with a group.

I don’t think it would be fun as a couple.

Last time I was there with a couple too.

I think it’s going to be most fun as a group.

Yeah, you kind of need everybody playing off of each other to encourage to go do this, go do that.

32:20

So I don’t disagree, minus the nightlife aspect, just even all the food that you were talking about that you ate in places and stuff like that’s getting me to want to go to Nashville specifically.

So, you know, you say you’re done with Nashville for a while, but I bet you come a little bit of time, Kim, you’re going to be like, I’m ready to go to Nashville again.

32:39

I’m ready to go back to Vegas too.

There you go.

See, that’s how those cities work.

You say you’re done, but then you get the calling.
