We’re taking you along with us to Camp Hideaway Retreat to experience luxury tent suites, a quintessential fall retreat in Texas Hill Country! You’ll be inspired to go glamping, experience retreat travel, and start planning a wine tasting getaway Fredericksburg, Texas with your friends and family.
Kim went to Camp Hideaway for an overnight retreat on the first chilly day of fall. It was the perfect experience with a big group of women. We enjoyed al fresco sunset dining, custom charcuterie board branding, roasting marshmallows by the fire at night, and waking up to the sunrise with group yoga.
Retreat travel is gaining more popularity for how it brings people together for an experience. Camp Hideaway is awesome because you can join a group retreat, plan one for a private group, or just rent the luxury tent suites for your group, even if its just the two of you.

If Camp Hideaway Retreat is booked, we also recommend Longneck Manor, and Stars Hot Tub Dome for a Fredericksburg getaway!

Camp Hideaway Retreat Experience – Episode Transcript

Hey squaddies, welcome to this week’s Just the Tip. Today we’re taking you on another retreat, this time at Camp Hideaway Retreat in the beautiful Fredericksburg, TX.
0:50
You just have me, Kim.
Today I went on this retreat as an invited guest and I am so excited that I got the invite and that I get to bring the story back to you.
Ever since I went on that Wellness retreat in Mykonos back in May of 2025, I have been obsessed with retreat travel and it’s been finding me.
1:10
I get fed Tik Toks, I get fed ads, and I have a list of different Wellness retreats across the world that I would like to go to at some point.
So this one found me.
I stumbled upon it and I’m excited to talk about it.
But I do want to talk about Camp Hideaway Retreat just as a destination that anyone can go to, whether you’re going on an official retreat or not.
1:30
Camp Hideaway Retreat is just about a 90 minute drive from Austin, TX.
It’s in Fredericksburg and if you harken back to some of our past Fredericksburg content, you will know that it is the wine country of Texas.
It has more than 60 wineries that dot Hwy. 290 leading up into and around Fredericksburg.
1:50
It’s a beautiful Texas Hill Country.
Got the gorgeous scenery sprawling all around you And Camp Highway Retreat is home to several different luxury tent suites and different styles of accommodation.
It’s a really, really cool place.
2:05
The compound, I’ll call it, is this massive property again, Big open wide spaces of sprawling Texas Hill Country scenery.
So beautiful.
It can host retreats of many different sizes.
It can also host different events like say a family reunion or a wedding or some type of a corporate event.
2:27
It’s a fantastic place for that because it has so much space and so much accommodation to hold whatever size group you have.
But it’s also a good place for couples.
It could be a great romantic couples getaway, just two friends or a small group of friends.
It could even be a solo retreat.
2:43
I would be down for that.
Or like I said, it could be a full on retreat or event venue.
And it’s so close to all of those wineries now leading up from Austin to Fredericksburg.
And once you kind of get through the Texas, this Hill Country and start making your way into official Fredericksburg, you start to see all these wineries across 290.
3:02
So it’s just winery after winery after winery.
And eventually you’ll take a turn to go down the road that Camp Highway Retreat is on.
But that road is only a mile long, so just off that road, there are tons of wineries around there.
Downtown Fredericksburg isn’t too far, which is a wonderful little town to explore while you’re there as well.
3:21
So it’s got the best of both worlds, really, the sprawling serenity and escape feeling of being at a retreat and at these luxury 10 suites.
But then you’re so close to the wineries in downtown Fredericksburg, so really best of both worlds.
3:38
Let’s talk about the accommodations at Camp Hideaway Retreat.
The 1st is the luxury tent suites.
These are what you would imagine a one bedroom tent glamping situation is.
There are 12 suites available on the property and they are spaced out close enough so if you were with a big group, you’re still with them, but far enough away from each other that you have your privacy.
4:00
You wouldn’t necessarily hear someone talking in their tent right next to yours.
They do have heat and air conditioning in every tent and there’s 2 units of it because they’re that big.
What’s inside, right?
Why are they so big?
This is not a tent that you imagine.
4:16
You unzip it and you crawl right in.
No, no, no, no.
This is a glamping tent suite.
So each one of these units is built onto its own porch.
You have wooden stairs that lean up to its own porch.
On the porch it has a little table and two chairs where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
4:34
Maybe a glass of wine or a coffee.
Once you go into the tent suite, it has these double glass doors.
So even though some of this suite is made from tent wallings, there are still structural architecture that’s a part of it too.
And one of those things is the front door.
4:50
So you have these beautiful double glass doors that open up in the front.
It locks like any other official building would.
Once you open those doors, at least I’m going to describe mine.
There’s some of them are a little bit different, but what you’ll see typically is a gorgeous king size bed with the most beautiful linens, extra blankets, like I would love for them to decorate my house.
5:11
It was that cute.
And then to one side you have a desk and a chair so someone could work there.
On the other side, you have another little side table and comfy chair seating.
Then you walk past the bed.
There’s a big wall structure behind the bed.
5:27
When you walk past that.
I was shocked.
It’s a huge kitchenette and yes, it’s a kitchenette, but it’s it’s a full on kitchen.
There’s a full size trash can, knife set, all the dishes you would need to cook something, every dish where you would need to serve something if you did cook it.
5:43
There’s an espresso machine.
It truly has everything.
You can really stay a while here and you’d be just fine.
There’s a mini fridge in there so you can store things and then there’s another wall beyond that which opens up to the bathroom.
The bathroom had his and her sinks, a huge deep tub.
6:00
I only stayed one night so unfortunately I didn’t get to take a bath and that is my biggest regret from Camp Hideaway Retreat is not being able to take a bath in this amazing tub.
And then in addition to the tub they have a full on walk in shower so the bathroom’s huge.
There were two robes hanging in the closet there.
6:17
Amazing robes, I can confirm, and it was just an amazing place.
I was shocked at how big and spacious it was.
It looks big from the outside, sure, but once you’re inside, it’s a true on little home.
And so the luxury tent suites, there are different styles in there as well.
6:34
There’s a family tent suite that can sleep for so instead of having that, it would have a little bit of a different view when you walk in.
There’s two day beds on the side that can turn into beds.
So there’s that if you’re bringing a family or maybe you have a group of four girls and you all want to stay together.
And then they have the couple’s tent suites, which also come with a hot tub outside below your porch.
6:55
That is really nice too.
Mine didn’t have the hot tub, but I did get to enjoy someone’s hot tub during my retreat.
Now, in addition to those luxury tent suites, they also have a big ranch house that can sleep eight people.
So there’s four king ensuite bedrooms in the ranch house.
They’re all fully equipped with the standard things you would expect in any type of hotel room with the coffee machine, mini fridge, all of that.
7:17
But then it also has a chef style kitchen, wine and coffee bar, and then a private back and front porch and a hot tub.
So this is definitely for the bigger groups of people.
Maybe it’s a Bachelorette party or a birthday party or big family gathering and you all want to sleep together but have your still your own spaces.
7:37
That’s perfect.
The ranch house is great for that.
And then lastly they have the Sunrise house.
So this is just one house.
It’s a private one bedroom, 1 bed house perfect for a couples getaway.
Of course they have the central heat and AC, all the coffee and kitchen amenities, and they have a grill and outdoor dining area.
7:54
This one also comes with a cowboy pool and a fire pit.
All of the lodging options were so thoughtfully decorated.
They were so cute, had that charming rustic decor, premium linens, towels, plush pillows, robes.
It is amazing here it’s it truly is luxury, but just with that more camping rustic feel.
8:14
The property itself is huge too.
They have a big main indoor space, they have sprawling outdoor spaces, resort, pool for the whole property.
And I got to enjoy all of this because I went on a retreat.
It was a sweater weather fall retreat.
8:31
It was just for one night at the end of October, and this was a special day because it was the first night in Texas where we had cold weather.
It had been 80s and sometimes even the 90s still leading up to this, and then all of a sudden it dropped into the 60s.
So it was absolutely perfect for the schedule that we had for this retreat.
8:50
There were 15 women.
We were all staying in the luxury tent suites and the ranch house.
I had a luxury tent suite all to myself.
I really thought I was going to be sharing it with somebody, but when I walked in and I had a little note for myself and a couple little goodies on the king size bed, it was all for me and I was so excited immediately.
9:11
It was just gorgeous, so much bigger than you think it would be.
Like I said, you walk up into it and like immediately, if that was all you experienced at Camp Hideaway Retreat, just the luxury tent suite itself, you would love it.
But there’s a lot more to the resort than just the tent suite itself.
9:29
So I got there at 2:00 PM.
The retreat was essentially 2:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the middle of the week.
And so I got in there, I got settled into my space, checked out the robes.
Then I went down to the resort pool, which wasn’t only a very short walk from where my luxury tent suite was.
9:45
And the pool had tons of day beds that you can lay out on the side.
They had water beds that were inside of the pool.
And then the pool kind of was a little bit of an Infinity feel to it.
And then it’s just looking out into the sprawling Texas Hill Country as far as the eye can see.
10:01
It was just trees and land and rolling hills.
It was absolutely gorgeous.
So I enjoyed that a little bit.
I made friends with a couple of other retreat ladies that were there and they invited me over to their luxury tent suite, which was one of the couples suites that had the hot tub.
10:18
So I did get to enjoy that a little bit.
That was really cool.
I mean truly directly under your porch, so steps from your luxury tent retreat, is the hot tub, which is really cool.
If I was going again, I would try to book that one after a little bit of relaxation and kind of enjoying some early parts of the property.
10:36
The itinerary included a makeup tutorial with another one of the girls.
And so we all went into this getting ready room, I’ll call it.
And like I said, they do have events and weddings here.
And so this would be the perfect room for getting ready, like all the girls getting ready because the room is very spacious.
10:55
It had a countertop and chairs around the entire thing and all of the walls were mirrored.
So it is the perfect getting ready room.
And that’s exactly what we did.
We went through different makeup tutorial, shared brands and products that we love, got ready for the night, and that was really fun.
11:12
We all piled in there.
So there was about 15 of us at this retreat and we all fit in there.
But I would say comfortably it’s probably more like 8 or 10 would be the appropriate great amount for getting ready here. 6:00 PM rolled around and this was cocktail hour.
So they really did it up for us here at Camp Hideaway Retreats.
11:30
They hired a bartender that had this beautiful set up at their bar.
He was mixing delicious margaritas and pouring really good Fredericksburg, TX Hill Country wine, so we enjoyed that.
There was also a singer and guitar player who was playing for us personally the entire night.
11:47
He literally had the voice of an Angel.
It was the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.
He sung a lot of John Mayer, which was really cool.
They also had a charcuterie board branding station, so you could brand whatever letters, numbers, symbols that they had onto your own personal charcuterie board, which was amazing.
12:08
We all got to do that.
I had never branded anything before, so that was a fun experience.
And then we mixed and mingled for quite a while and then we had dinner under the stars by the Shepherd’s Table.
The Shepherd’s Table is the company that can’t pile away retreat contracts with most frequently for catering.
12:25
So yes, if you were to have your own event here, whether it was a birthday party or a full on organized retreat, you can organize catering for the group too, which is fantastic and I would recommend it.
They had set up this beautiful long table, beautifully decorated outdoors on the big grassy area outside of the main building.
12:45
And when the sunsets in this area, it is gorgeous.
So if you could time your dinner here at sunset, Oh my gosh, the pictures, the lighting, the ambiance, the mood, it’s going to be amazing.
And the food was great too.
It was kind of, you know, Tex Mex themed because we are here in Texas.
13:03
So it was tacos, guac, all the fixings, family style.
I love eating family style, by the way, especially with big groups like this.
It just brings everybody together after dinner, barber’s still open, just chit chatting and getting to know each other more.
And then we started up the fire pits.
13:20
So they do have several different fire pits here in this area and we got those going.
We brought out the S’mores kits and we made S’mores and we hung out by the fire.
There’s also a bunch of places to sit from chairs to kind of outdoor couches, lounge areas.
So it fit all of us comfortably across the 2 fire pits that we had out there and it was a great time.
13:41
Like I said, this was the first night in Texas that we had all season that actually got cold.
So we were actually in sweaters and boots and sitting by the fire and it was so good.
Around 9:00 or 9:30 or so, I said, OK, let’s call it a night.
I walked back to my luxury tent suite, which was maybe, I don’t know, a three to five minute walk from where we were having the fire pits in the main area.
14:04
And I got it back into my luxury tent suite, got into my comfy bed, which was amazing.
And this side it actually got really windy.
So I got to kind of experience like that rustic camping feel.
You hear the wind crashing against the tent and you can hear the elements, but the luxury tent is so well built that you’re very well protected.
14:25
The wind is not getting in.
It’s climate controlled.
So we had the heat on in there and it brought that luxury side into it.
And I’m a huge fan of glamping.
This was a great experience.
And in the next morning when we had breakfast, all the girls were like, how was your sweet?
14:40
How was the wind?
So it was kind of exciting to to be in the elements, but you know, obviously so protected.
This is also a great area for stargazing.
There wasn’t too too many stars out the night that we were there.
But if it was more of a clear starry night, oh, there is no light pollution around here.
14:58
So you would be loving it out there.
I woke up the next morning around sunrise.
I I wanted to watch the sunrise from my beautiful porch, so I made a coffee with the an espresso machine in the room and then I sat on the table out on my porch in my camp hideaway robe.
15:14
It was perfect.
Like this is exactly the way I would like to start every morning.
The beautiful sun peeking over the Texas Hill Country hills, this gorgeous orange and yellow hues.
I’m in my beautiful robe and slippers and drinking my coffee and the mugs that they’ve provided not out of a paper mug.
15:33
You really feel really like home here and I was like, I would like to live here.
Can I move in?
Can I actually move to Fredericksburg, which I would like to do one day.
Then after that we went down for a catered breakfast.
So it was some great delicious yogurt parfaits with granola and fruit muffins, coffee.
15:49
And then they brought that long table from the night before inside the main room because it still was windy and cold that morning.
So it made for the perfect breakfast because this room is glass windows or glass walls I should say.
So you still have a view of the beautiful outside, but you’re inside and protected from wind and elements.
16:09
We’re in the summer.
If you’re here when it’s very hot, this would be nice too.
We had a scheduled vinyasa yoga session.
We were going to do it outside in that grassy area, but again, it was a little chilly.
So we set up inside the main room and it was perfect.
We still got the view of the outside, but we were inside and in this room too, they have tons of games.
16:29
They had poker tables out, foosball outside.
They also had cornhole.
They also had Connect 41, those giant Connect fours.
So tons of stuff to do if you’re with a bigger family, big group of people, and if you’re spending more than just one night here.
After all of that, I went back to my luxury tent suite and I did actually get a little bit of work done on my laptop.
16:46
They have great Wi-Fi inside of the tent suite.
So that was really nice.
I got some work done and then I made the very easy drive back to Austin again, it’s only about an hour and a half and there was basically no traffic until you really get back into Austin.
I always love that drive from Fredericksburg.
17:02
It’s really nice.
And so if you’re ever coming to Austin, try to make your way out to Fredericksburg.
It is a very easy drive and stay here at Camp Hideaway Retreat, even though it has the space to hold big groups.
If you just want to book one tent suite, you can do that.
If you’re coming as a couple or just with a friend or two.
17:18
I would actually love to organize A2 to three night retreat here.
One night was great because we just got a taste of it.
But I would like to maybe go and do some wine tasting and then come back and have dinner and maybe to go out down to downtown Fredericksburg and check it out a little bit.
17:34
Maybe have some time, time booked in for sound healing, wine tasting, Pilates every morning, spa treatments, journaling, connection.
I have a vision for what an amazing retreat could be.
So I’m going to start kind of brainstorming around that, maybe working out what I possibly could there.
17:50
I think it would be so, so amazing.
I would obviously open it up to all of you squatties and anyone else in the Austin area or really Central Texas area that would be interested in coming out there and we’ll see what maybe we can build for 2026.
If you’re interested.
18:06
I’d love to hear what you think would be a reasonable price for a three day, two night retreat that includes some of these things that I’ve mentioned.
So it’s always an interesting thing to try to price some of this stuff out, whereas there’s a price associated with it.
But like what’s reasonable?
18:21
What’s something that would make you say yes, 100% I’m going to that.
So Squatty’s let me know.
Thank you so much for tuning into, Just the tip!
