Rating Disney Parks – Episode Transcript

0:35

Today you have just me and Brittany and we’re taking you to every Disney park around the world and ranking them.

0:56

Currently there are 12 Disney parks.

We have Disneyland California, California Adventure, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Disney Studios Park, Shanghai Disney Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

1:16

So Brittany and I recently visited our last park, which was Hong Kong Disney in March of 2025.

We were originally supposed to visit in March of 2020, but of course COVID happened, got cancelled, and here we are now five years later finally completing it to making it to all the Disney parks around the world.

1:35

Ironically enough, less than two months after we returned from our trip visiting the last park, it was just announced that they’re planning on building a 13th park in Abu Dhabi.

So rest assured, Brittany, right?

We’re going when that park opens.

Definitely going it’s going to be like first on our list because let me tell you, we have visited a Disney park within its first year of opening and it was magical, just really added to the Disney experience.

2:00

So I can’t wait to see how this one stacks up.

So Jamal mentioned we are going to be raiding the parks in this episode and we do realize is that Disney fanatics are hardcore and you may not agree with our rankings and we might even ruffle some Disney ears, but this is just how we are going to rank the parks personally.

2:19

So when ranking, we’ve considered several things.

Theming, an atmosphere, rides and attractions, uniqueness, food, nostalgia, and Disney magic.

So we’re going to rank them from our least favorite parks and #12 all the way to #1 which is going to be our favorite.

2:35

And again, all subjective on Brittany and I’s opinion.

We even had differing opinions of, oh, this one should be here.

There, we’re pretty close in the ballpark of our thoughts.

So it’s only off by like a point or two maybe where we had to come to some compromise.

But of course, your list will be different and maybe there’s a lot of squaddies out there and Disney fans who agree 100% with our list.

2:56

So I’m excited to get into it.

So #12 we put as Walt Disney Studios park in Paris mall and I visited this park in December of 2015.

The theme of this park is the behind the scenes look at movie making inspired by Hollywood studios.

3:11

So there are some pros.

You know, it’s a home to The Avengers campus and the ready to E ride, which I loved.

And it’s close to the Disneyland Paris park, so it’s easy to do park hopping at this location.

And they’re opening the world of Frozen Land in 2026.

So although that hasn’t happened yet, that’s an upcoming perk.

3:29

So why are we ranking this at #12 And our least favorite?

When we visited, I felt it was really small, really cramped, and the Ratatouille ride was the highlight.

The Avengers campus is relatively new within the last couple years that they opened it, and of course they’re opening world of Frozen.

3:48

So a lot of this stuff is now really becoming IP and not really having that core Disney magic or nostalgia or anything like that.

So it’s a really small park.

It felt when we were there, underdeveloped.

And of course, it has the theme of being a studios park in terms of filmmaking, but yet now they’ve transitioned out of.

4:08

And even when we were there, the theming just felt a little disjointed.

And for that reason, we’re placing it at #12 collectively, other than Ratatouille, Brittany and I did not like this park.

We went in and we’re like, we are going back to Disneyland Paris.

We park hopped right back after we realized this park is trash.

4:24

Now that is just our opinion.

I’m going to say it now.

We went in 2015.

So of course with the newer stuff may be different, but yeah.

Right behind that in #11 we put Disney’s Hollywood Studios park in Orlando.

We went in May of 2019.

4:40

The theming of this park is kind of similar.

It’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it’s divided into 7 themed areas inspired by romanticized iterations of either existing locations found in Hollywood and throughout Los Angeles, or imagine worlds from Hollywood Boren Stories.

So some of the pros of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is going to be the new Galaxy’s Edge, which is themed to Star Wars.

5:02

Now.

Brittany and I went in May of 2019.

They were just about to open it up at that point in time.

So we did not get to experience the park with their newest big draw that everyone says is a highlight.

Firstly, though, they did open up a Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland in California.

5:18

So Brittany and I have experienced it.

We know what it’s about.

We’ve written those big ticket attractions that they do have in there.

Of course, not within this park, but even with that being there, we’ll get in the cons in just a second.

But I got ahead of myself.

You know, some of the other pros that this park has are the attractions like Tower of Terror, the original location of it at the show, Phantasm, but otherwise there’s not that many rides.

5:43

You get burnt out of this park pretty quickly.

And again, the layout is confusing and the theming now just seems really disjointed all around.

Yeah, definitely disjointed theming.

We went to this park with your mom.

My mom.

Yeah, and it was a good park if you’re going with young kids or older people, because you don’t have to spend a whole day there and you have a lot of downtime, I feel.

6:06

I agree with you, Brittany.

And I felt like when we were there, they had a lot, lot of shows that were attraction.

They had the Indiana Jones, they had Beauty and the Beast as one.

And these are shows that you could go to at Fantasmic as an example.

That is another show, but they only have the evening show of it.

6:22

So it’s not like multiple times in the day.

You really have to stay and wait.

And yes, they do have rides and some good ones, but nevertheless, just theming wise, I just don’t understand this.

And everybody was hating on Disney’s California Adventure at one point in time, saying it was like one of the worst parks.

6:39

And let me tell you something, yes, maybe a biased opinion because we’ve gone to that park many, many times.

It is one of our home parks being here as California natives.

But I don’t know how this park did not get the wrath because I just do not like it.

So #10 we had a hard time putting this park here and I probably really didn’t agree with Jamal on this ranking, but we settled on it.

7:02

So we put in #10 the Hong Kong Disneyland park.

So this is the last park that we visited.

We just visited in March of 2025, and it’s a classic Magic Kingdom style park with local influences of the area.

What made this park so great for me when we went is there was no lines.

7:22

Like we got to ride every single ride.

We wanted to ride 345 maybe even 6 times.

And they have the unique Mystic Manor ride, which really just highlights this park so much.

And it has the new world of frozen land.

7:37

And there’s smaller crowds like I had said, which is low wait times.

The longest that we waited in a line was like 15 to 20 minutes.

And when we saw the 20 minutes were like, oh, whoa, whoa, that’s long for this.

Park I know.

Can you imagine 20 minutes being like sticker shock at Disneyland for a wait time time and in the bad way, right?

7:54

But that’s where we were at here.

Don’t don’t get me wrong, I did like this park.

We enjoyed our time here a lot, but it only has a handful of things that are really captivate you.

World of Frozen is new.

So I’m just thinking to myself if they didn’t have this.

8:10

This park is relatively small, you can get done with it quick and Mystic Manor, which is their version of the Haunted Mansion is truly the only stand out.

They do have a good Thunder Mountain and of course other classic Disney rides.

They have Space Mountain but they rethemed that to Star Wars and I really don’t like when they take Space Mountain and make it Star Wars related.

8:30

But in terms of a Disney day, no rides.

I mean this park was fun.

Where I felt like it belongs here on this list is simply because you could get done really quick and not really a lot of attractions.

Still fun nonetheless, but we’re going to move on #9 On our list is Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

8:47

We last visited in May 2019, and the theme is the Classic Disney Fairy tales in the lands.

They have Fantasyland, Adventureland, et cetera.

And the pros of it is it’s a classic Disney experience.

It has a ton of rides, it has iconic shows, the fireworks, the character meetups, but it’s so crowded almost all year round and we feel that it lacks the charm of the original Disneyland.

9:13

I know there’s going to be a lot of Disney fanatics that are probably enraged that we put Magic Kingdom at #9 but really it doesn’t have that classic nostalgia or charm that Disneyland has.

So if I’m comparing it to that, there’s that.

9:29

Also, if you take some of the big name rides that we all know, Pirates of the Caribbean, their ride way shorter here at Magic Kingdom than it is at Disneyland.

And their version of Space Mountain, just absolute trash.

It’s not like it is an any of the other Space Mountains, which is exceptionally better.

9:48

Now, in fairness, we have not been since Magic Kingdom has opened up Tron, which is supposed to be amazing.

And when I say supposed to be, I think it’s an identical clone of what we rode when we went to Shanghai and we loved.

So fairness.

Ridden it, just not in this location.

10:05

Yes.

So taking that into consideration though of some of the classic Disney rides and then their versions of what they have here at Magic Kingdom, even it’s a small world, just the outside aesthetic is not as nice as it is as Disneyland.

So if I’m comparing it to that, that’s why we do put it lower here On the list at #9 #8 on our list is going to be Disney California Adventure in Anaheim.

10:28

And you know, we’ve been telling you guys when we visited these parks, but now we’re getting to the first California park.

And Brittany and I have been to this park too many times to count.

We used to have our annual passports to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

So collectively, Brittany, what would you say?

10:43

We’ve been to Disney California Adventure in Disneyland like over 50 times at the very, very least.

Had that pass for a few years.

Can you imagine when Disneyland we had the All Access Pass for $500 a year?

Jamal and I used to go after we got off of work.

10:59

We would rock up, drive up the hour and a half, grab a pizza on the way up and close down the park and then we would drive home.

Park closing at midnight and still go to work the next day.

Oh, that was wild.

But be in our 20s again, right?

And to even have an annual pass with no blackout dates for $500, parking included.

11:19

Yeah, I was going to say included parking.

Amazing.

Wild, but never the nevertheless, the theme of Disney California Adventure is a celebration of California’s culture, landscape, and stories.

So when this park first opened, a lot of people did not like it.

It got a very bad rap.

11:34

And Disney spent over like a billion and a half dollars in a revamp of the park within the first 5-6 years of it actually opening.

So we’ve been to it before the revamp, during the revamp, after the revamp, and that we’re putting it here kind of on the bottom half the list.

11:51

But this still really is a good park park.

They have cars land which is a land themed to cars.

I know mentioned earlier about OIP this is probably one of their first IP lands that they actually did.

But an amazing ride with radiator springs.

You do have Tower of Terror here which has now been re themed to Guardians of the Galaxy which.

12:10

I don’t like that.

I like it the original.

I like it the original too, but in fairness you haven’t seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Nowhere do you really need to see it to get the ride, but I appreciate it that way.

Yeah, but that’s not Disney classic fair.

Yeah, and that’s why we’re putting it here at 8, are we not?

12:27

But my favorite ride in the park is probably Toy Story Mania.

Love that ride, can’t get enough of it.

Well, yeah, you have Toy Story Midway Mania, you have the creation of Soaring, which they have now put in other Disney parks around the world.

Just as well, this is the original park where they did have it.

So this park does have really good theming.

12:45

The seaside front theming area is themed to a Victorian waterfront.

It’s really beautiful.

You have areas theme to Californiae landscape with the mountains and the trees, the Hollywood back lot.

So we’re starting to get a little bit better theming here.

Has good rides, but still not anything that’s top notch to make that bottom half of the top 6.

13:07

I would agree with you on that.

In spot #7 we put Disneyland Paris.

We visited this quite a while ago in December of 2015.

And I do like the theme of this park.

It’s a classic Disneyland with an elegant European twist.

It has probably the most beautiful of the castles and it has the most like romantic style theming.

13:28

And it does have some unique rides like Phantom Manor, which is like a more dark and intense version of the Haunted Mansion has Thunder Mountain.

It’s one of the best theme Thunder Mountains and their space mountain actually has loops and a launch which is really cool.

Yeah.

13:44

So All in all, I would say in terms of a castled Disney park with, of course a castle in the center, we really do like Disneyland Paris for all the reasons that Brittany just mentioned.

And it’s just a great park.

But why we put it lower on the list and not cracking the top half and top 6 here is because sometimes you just get inconsistent service and food quality.

14:08

You could read forms about it all the time.

People will either say, oh, it’s really good or complain a lot about the service that you get.

And that takes away from the Disney magic because you’re supposed to really have that catered feeling with the cast members wanting to take care of you.

And this park does have really, really long lines.

14:25

I mean, of course, all Disney parks usually do, minus Hong Kong as we were just talking about, but long lines here.

But in terms of just general theming, romanticized European version of Disney, this is a beautiful park.

Number six on our list is going to be Tokyo Disneyland.

14:43

We visited this park in January of 20-19.

This is a classic Disneyland style park, but bigger and much cleaner.

I mean, Disney is known for its cleanliness, but if you’ve ever been to Japan, they take their everyday cleanliness so much more seriously.

14:59

So you could just imagine how clean and pristine this park actually is.

Yes, so I love this park.

It was a really fun day, but you are just we will go non-stop.

One big pro about this park is it still has a splash mountain in its original form.

15:15

And so that’s really exciting to us because we love that ride.

And then they also have Winnie the Pooh, which may not sound very exciting, but it’s on the new magnetic track system and it’s so much fun.

So I really enjoyed that.

And then they also have the beauty and the beast ride as well.

15:33

So a lot of good pros, but the cons is definitely the line weight when we went and it may have changed because our friends Cash and Ryan went with us and they did a day there and we did not the line wait.

We literally barely rode every single ride that we wanted to ride by midnight.

15:50

Like, we really had to rush, rush it.

Yeah, we rode every ride or big attraction that we wanted to ride at least once.

I don’t think we got anything with a repeat.

So it was really crowded.

So that would be a con.

Also in Japan, they get to the park really early.

16:05

I mean, people start lining up to three hours for rope drops.

So I would say that as a con, you really have to know going into there, like an hour’s not going to do it.

You need to be there a little bit earlier.

So we really like this park.

It cracks the top half number six right here for you guys because it’s just a bigger, cleaner.

16:24

Disneyland has all the classics plus a few unique ones of the ride styles of Winnie the Pooh and their new Beauty and the Beast, which is in the same trackless system as well.

So top six right here, Tokyo Disneyland. #5 We’ve put at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando.

16:41

We visited in January of 2014, and the theme of this, of course, is nature, wildlife, and conservation through storytelling.

I wish we’ve gone back because they’ve added so much more to this park than when we were there, but we still had such a good time.

16:56

Like they’ve now added the Avatar Land, which I really want to go visit, and they have a great mix of rides and shows and real animals.

Like, that was definitely one of the highlights when we were there.

You know, the Jungle Cruise, this is a famous, iconic Disney ride.

They do not have it here at this park.

17:12

But a lot of people don’t realize when Walt Disney thought of that ride, he really wanted real life animals and they couldn’t figure out how they were going to do it and be able to do that Here at this park.

They have a real legitimate safari that you can go on and with that Disney magic and touch, they have it set up in such a way that you really can’t see the boundaries, right.

17:33

So you’re out here in a safari vehicle as one of the rides and it’s not like you’re fenced off and you see them there.

They really have it set up in a way landscape wise to where the animals can’t get to you, but you can’t really see those actual barriers.

So they brought that original thought of Jungle Cruise, put it to a safari here you have the new lands that they have and so unique, just a park based around conservation and animals.

17:57

There is no other Disney park quite like that.

A lot of the other parks that around that are the non castle parks usually have a similar theme.

I would say California Adventure, even those things of California, Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney Studios park, kind of a lot of the same stuff, right?

Here’s one that’s truly uniquely different.

18:14

So we do like that about it and we do need to go back to see a lot of their new lands that they have.

But I would say a con is they do have limited rides compared to other parks.

And it is hot and humid.

I mean, we’re here in Florida.

I guess we didn’t mention that when we’re talking about Magic Kingdom too.

18:32

You will have that here.

But shade I felt like was limited in the park.

Yeah, definitely.

But like Jamal said, I can’t wait to go back.

Jamal, I hope we go back soon.

Let’s do it.

Every time we go to Florida, we try to do another Disney park.

So last time we went to Epcot, the time we went back.

18:49

So we will go back and do Animal Kingdom.

And Epcot is actually in slot #4 so again, it’s in Orlando.

We visited this park twice.

First time was in January of 2013 and the last time was in February of 2023.

19:05

So 10 year difference.

And the theming of Epcot is global cultures, human achievement, and innovation.

I really love this park because it feels like you can travel the world while being inside this park because you can go to all of the different countries pavilions and try to eat or drink your way around the world.

19:24

Yeah, so Epcot, if you don’t know the acronym for it, actually stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

So it goes to the theme that Brittany talked about, human achievement, celebration, innovation, global cultures.

So they have an area in this park called the World Showcase where they have a lineup of different countries.

19:42

Some of those countries will have ride attractions or even food that you could taste that’s local, just general information about those countries to learn.

So you get that kind of educational aspect, which may be some people may say I’m not going to a theme park to be educated.

19:58

But in the Disney way, they make it great where you’re actually having fun, you’re enjoying it, you’re seeing it.

And of course they do have rides.

You’re not going to come here and not have rides.

One of the highlights and most recent rides that they had opened here at Epcot, Brittany and I were fortunate enough to ride was Cosmic Rewind themed to Guardians of the Galaxy.

20:18

I know what you said about Guardians of the Galaxy a little bit earlier though, but I would say you could equate Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind if you haven’t ridden it, to a space mountain that’s themed to Guardians of the Galaxy, which I think is actually really great.

Yeah, it was a good ride.

20:33

It was fun, but I feel like Epcot does have a lot going on with itself.

So it kind of feels a little disjointed with like the construction and the updates.

So that’s probably just a con of it and it’s not as kid friendly.

We don’t have that problem.

We don’t have kids, but I know a lot of other people do take that into consideration.

20:52

So just keep that in mind if you plan to visit Epcot.

And that’s actually one of the things you’ll see online on Disney forums people are talking about.

As Epcot has evolved, they feel like it’s losing its identity a little bit, but I feel like it’s lost it a lot less than other parks have lost its identity, with a lot of IP and stuff coming in.

21:10

So Epcot still ranks high for us and just a completely unique theme park in general, let alone Disney park #3 on the list is going to be a park that Brittany and I love.

It’s going to be Tokyo Disney Sea.

We’ve been to this park twice, in January of 2019 and in March of 2025.

21:30

The theme of the park is exploration and adventure across fantastical seaports around the world.

Brittany and I really love this park because we felt like there are a lot of unique rides.

But more importantly, this I will say hands down Brittany will agree, lots of people will agree.

21:46

It’s the most breathtaking theming and immersive land wise.

Hands down one of the most beautifully themed parks on the planet.

Yeah, it really just feels like every detail is Immaculate.

It feels like Disney for adults here, so that might be a con.

It’s not really ideal for younger kids, but still talking about the pros, it’s such a beautiful park and there’s some unique rides there that aren’t found anywhere or else.

22:09

Like my favorite ride in the park is Journey to the Center of the Earth.

They have Adventures of Sinbad and 20,000 leagues and it’s the only Disney park with a different Frozen ride in their new Fantasy Springs land.

So it does feel like classic Disney with more adult oriented Fantasyland style rides.

22:29

And had we been raiding the parks a few years ago when we first went, this might have been higher on our list.

But it still made our top three.

And the reason why we ranked it 3 instead of a little bit higher is probably because it can get so crowded with long wait times.

22:46

And that’s definitely a con.

The first time we went, it was amazing.

There was no one there.

We rode things several times.

We actually even left the park early because we felt like we did everything that we wanted to do.

But when we went back in March of 2025, it was disgustingly crowded.

23:02

And it got to the point where wait times were two and a half, three hours, even longer.

And so Jamal and I rode what we could and what we wanted to, but we’re like, we’re not committing waiting that long.

And so we did just roam around and enjoy the theming of the park and just enjoy the park for what it is.

23:20

And we’d still really enjoyed it, but it knocked it down a few notches on our list.

Yeah and again, we even made it to the park 2 hours before rope drop and by the time we got in the park, cause so many people were in front of us, wait times were already 2 1/2 three hours, which is so different from the first time we went in 2019.

23:38

But just in general, the unique rides, even the rides that they have here that aren’t unique, that are classic Disney rides that they have at other locations, the theming, this is still really high on the list #3.

So #2 on our list is the original Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

23:54

And I’ve been going to this park since I was a toddler.

I I have pictures from like way back when I’ve been going for so long.

I know Jamal has two.

His family used to always do family trips down to Disneyland.

I mean, it’s the original Happiest Place on Earth, Walt Disney’s original park.

24:12

The only park Walt Disney has ever stepped foot in.

He started planning when they were developing Florida, but he never made it to see it finished.

So only Disneyland has experienced Walt’s magic touch and supervision as they’ve been designing the park.

24:28

But why?

We love this park so much.

And again, people may say this is a personal bias because it is our Home Park, but we really do feel like it is packed with its original charm, history, and nostalgia.

When you’re here, you really do feel the magic a lot more.

24:43

It feels so much less commercialized than Magic Kingdom in Florida.

Now, I know what you’re saying.

Disneyland not commercialized.

No, it’s commercialized.

But what I mean by that is like when you really look around and appreciate all the theming, it feels like it has more magic in here and it has the most attractions per square foot as well.

25:02

What a unique fact.

Konzo is because it has the most attractions per square foot it can feel, because it has smaller pathways, there’s not a lot of wiggle room.

And then it is an older park, so there’s older infrastructure in some areas.

But we rated it #2 because we just love it so much.

25:21

Number.

One on our list of favorite and top Disney parks is going to be Shanghai Disneyland.

This should come to no surprise to squaddies who have heard previous episodes where we talked about how much we loved Shanghai Disneyland.

We visited in May of 2017 and the theme of course is a reimagined Magic Kingdom Disneyland style castle park that’s tailored to Chinese culture and audiences.

25:48

This was.

Such a fun park to visit.

I mentioned earlier that we have visited a park within its first year of opening and it was this park and we went on our last day of a China trip.

So we did like an 8 or 10 day tour of China and on our last day we had a free day and so we went to Shanghai Disneyland.

26:08

It was myself, Jamal, his sister Zena, and of course Kim.

And we met our honorary squaddies Kasha and Ryan on that trip, so they came as well.

But this park is the most technologically advance park and their Pirates ride is out of this world.

26:26

It is amazing.

I don’t think they can make a better Pirates ride.

It is just so immersive and fun and we definitely rode it more than once.

We also rode Tron for the first time while we were there and we rode Tron probably 456 times and we just could not get enough of it.

26:44

At that time, there was no other Tron at any of the other Disney parks and it was so unique.

They didn’t have a.

Space Mountain, like Tron was, was their version of Space Mountain in Tomorrowland.

And you know, Brittany, you mentioned Pirates, who thinks, oh, Pirates of the Caribbean.

How could it be so great if you’ve ridden the other ones?

27:01

They’re like, yeah, the theming, but you go through, you have the animatronics, etcetera.

No, no, no, this is a thrill ride, legit theme to the movies.

It doesn’t have any of the animatronics you go through.

There’s certain areas where they actually have the screen, so you are on a moving boat, but they have it in such a way that you go through showrooms.

27:20

They have scenes on the screen.

You really feel like you’re sailing through there.

I mean, it’s just intense.

I would say if you don’t think you’re going to be going, watch a video on YouTube on it so you could see what we’re talking about.

But even the video on YouTube will do no justice for when you actually experience the ride.

But some of the cons of this park, because of course there are cons, each park has a con.

A lot of guests report that the behavior of some of the guests visiting is less consistent.

And what do I mean by that?

Just not really good behavior of the visitors in there that you’ll actually see.

27:52

Sometimes that could just bring down the magic a little bit.

That’s too bad.

And.

Another con is navigation and signage can be a little confusing for non Mandarin speakers, but we did fine, we survived, we had a great time, it is our favorite Disney park in the world and I will go back one day.

28:10

We need to go back soon.

When we went to Hong Kong to finish it off, we were debating should we go back to Shanghai Disney, But we had questions with our visas because you know, visas for mainland but not for Hong Kong.

So we opted to go back to Tokyo Disney Sea instead of Shanghai.

28:27

But we will make it back.

And that’s our mash up for you guys from 12 to one on our list.

If you agree or disagree, let us know.

I’m curious to hear from you Disney fanatics and squaddies.

But before we close it out, we did mention earlier, of course, they are opening at 13th Park in Abu Dhabi.

28:47

Very minimal details have been released so far other than the fact that they’re actually going to open it.

And I don’t think they have specified projected date or anything like that.

So details will be coming.

But nevertheless, I am excited to get out there and experience it when it finally opens.

Yeah, thank you guys.
